I've done this thread towards the end of the last few years. Your predictions for the upcoming year 2024, be that for the London bus network, wider UK transport scene or wider affairs.
And go!

I reckon the 177 may come into the mix. Especially with the way they've destroyed Greenwich High Street with the cycle lanes.

It will be the wildest political year with London Mayoral elections, General election and US presidential elections. A massive 'The Politics Thread' is created in the forum and members are not nice to each other. I won't spoil the outcomes but it won't be far off the colours found at a London bus station.
There will be a trial where Stagecoach will use AI to route control route 308. After some teething issues such as requesting all buses to terminate at Homerton, it proves to be a success but issues arise as it is expanded to the 276.
The 'Cost of living' crisis will end but be replaced by the 'Cost of surviving' crisis as things get more dire.
There is a consultation in Kingston to remove a route with the real reason being the new bus station can no longer accommodate it but it is masked as an efficient saving to match demand and create new links.

The existential crisis that London's bus network has been allowed to descend into will continue through 2024.
Regrettably the political will to do anything about it will be in short supply due to electioneering (both at National and London levels), and after the elections there will be far more pressing matters requiring political attention.

My predictions-
- Scanias leaving the 96 - DX retaining the 150 and 175 - GY losing the 66 to Stagecoach - SW’s finally finding a new home

Easy one
More cycle lanes More bus lanes removed to create cycle lanes More LTNs More anti-car drivel More roads get shut down so as to enable cycles to cycle through at Tour de France speeds Due to more threats the mayor’s entourage will have 20 diesel cars instead of 5 North Finchley gets more new bus routes, including more express routes in all possible radial directions Rotherhithe tunnel gets tolled at £10 per minute you spend between entry and exit Tower bridge gets tolled West London to get more (free) bridges

This is a very optimistic thread isn’t it!!! 😂😂
Anything involving a number 4 is always lucky for me so I have a good feeling for 2024. Don’t know what will happen but I seem to be feeling more optimistic about it than most 😂
2014 was an absolutely roaring year, I spent most of it drunk as I turned 18 that year 🤣 to think it’s nearly 10 years ago now is almost beyond comprehension

P.S. They are already planning on some AI tech already for ibus IIRC My predictions I can see more wars started next year possibly on the verge of world war 3 Another bus operator pulls out of London More protests Far right and far left become more violent and anti government tactics Khan ends up resigning over a scandal Donald Trump gets re-elected to the White House Starmer becomes PM, then people in the party that did not get the positions stab him in the back and he does not do a full term Route 357 is axed Bakerloo extension signed off People leave bus routes in droves due to delays and curtailments due to operators no longer willing to take a rap on the knuckles for TfL [GY] and [DX] closed to make a new super electric garage Some Superloop routes axed

Mo Roadworks, Mo Problems 30% Rule used even more Bromley North Bus Station Overloaded like Bexleyheath with too many buses and not enough stands. I see the 132 is now double parking at Geddes Place which is dangerous. Should be extended permanently to the garage. More overdue tender results & more with 1 bidder

The current route tendering system falls apart with some routes getting one bidder or even no bidders at all.
Superloop turns out to be a superflop.
The 126 is rerouted to North Greenwich and double decked to assist the overworked 132 although Sun in the Sands turns continue unabated on the latter.
Go Ahead continue to be the pantomime villains on here!
Susan Hall is elected mayor and the ULEZ expansion is abolished.
