Genuinely an awful game. Think the Foden chance was the best we got to winning. I'm confident we will be out of the group but not sure how far we will go in the knockout rounds.

We won't be going far based on that performance, I did have a bit of sympathy for Gareth Southgate but no excuse for that performance and unless he can perform a miracle and actually win it that has to be his lot. One of the worst games I can remember watching, the Spain v Italy game later was brilliant by comparison.

Game wouldve been better in terms of for neutral if the pitch wasnt as shocking as it was, althought it probably did help us get one point

Don’t think anyone saw Austria winning that group! That’s made things interesting. The French side should be glad they aren’t English - drawing with Poland and Netherlands and an own goal win over Austria would have English fans and media frothing at the mouth with rage!

Why do you think that the England National Team should be proud of just scraping through against easy opponents? The team quite frankly is world class but they don't play world class football at all. Southgate has just been cruising through because he's got world class players that aren't being utilised properly and there's a reason we've not actually managed to win any tournaments under him and a lot of it comes down to poor tactical decisions.

I don’t think I’ve said anywhere that the team should be proud of scraping through although you don’t get points for style - getting through is all that matters at the end of the day. But the horrifically negative attitude towards the team can only be having a negative effect on them. Recriminations can wait until after the tournament - they need support during the tournament itself

I believe there has been backlash back in France against the lacklustre performances of the French team thus far.

I know full well what’s going to be said about England’s performances in the group games but the idea at the start of the group stage is to make it through as group winners and whichever way you cut it, we’ve done that and results elsewhere mean we’ve ended up on the relatively easier side of the draw (which I’m sure will be a stick with which to beat England as well)
Let’s see what the knockout stages bring

One thing with this 24 team Euros I have noticed is that you don't necessarily have to have a brilliant group stages for to succeed in the knockout stages, Portugal in 2016 drew all 3 of their group games and only qualifed for the knockout as one of the best 3rd place teams, even throughout the whole tournament Portugal only won once within the 90 mins and yet they won the whole thing. Spain in the last Euros had an awful group stage to start off with only 2 points in the first two games and almost were going out in the group stages if they hadn't won their final group game with Slovakia and they did get as far as semi finals, which certainly suprised me at the time.

On a general note I've been very impressed with the refereeing and the use of VAR in the tournament so far.

Performances in the group stage haven’t set the world on fire, but we qualified top of the group and that’s all that matters. Back the team and enjoy the ride. The overall quality of the teams in this tournament is very high and we’re not the only team with world class individuals.
I hope to see Mainoo and Palmer start the next game, possibly switch Saka to the left wing to accommodate Palmer.
Mainoo transformed our midfield last night. Not only is he good at breaking up attacks and getting forward, but his positioning out of possession is excellent, constantly creating space for players around him as well as breaking up attacks. Slovenia were unable to press our defence as well once he came on. Rice was able to move forward with a bit more freedom too.
Guéhi and Stones have looked solid so far, a huge plus. Trippier is doing the best he can filling in on the left plus he’s reportedly managing an injury so he’s not sprinting beyond Foden. If Luke Shaw is available for the next game, it would make a huge difference to the balance of the team.

You’re supposed to say ‘we’re crap, sack Southgate’ 😉 You make some good points though - the defence have looked solid and it would be a welcome addition if Shaw is fit. But it’s the midfield where things looked so much better with the addition of Mainoo and Palmer (even Gordon in the few minutes he got last night). Anything can happen in the knockout stages

You can’t play Saka on the left - you either leave him on the right or drop him otherwise your doing the same thing that’s happening with Foden

I don't know much about football. I realise England aren't doing as well as their potential. But I sure hope it comes home this time.
£90 on the line.
