The Swiss weren’t great against Italy, they were efficient. Italy were very poor.

I’ll take stumbling into the semis but I’d quite like to see a little bit of swagger - there’s a possibility of a more attacking formation against the Swiss which could be interesting I thought you guys are switching to a back 3 according to all the talk over the last few days? If so, that's a more defensive formation Six of one, half a dozen of another 🤷🏼♂️ Having Bellingham and Foden floating around behind Kane looks more attacking to me while three at the back and Saka and Trippier as wing backs could provide a little more balance We’ll have to see what Southgate comes up with tonight

The Swiss weren’t great against Italy, they were efficient. Italy were very poor. Switzerland have a very good team. Comfortable on the ball and very good at beating the high press as we saw against Germany. Germany were fortunate to get a draw and the Swiss dispatched of Italy with ease. In Xhaka they have a dominant force who really makes things tick. Vargas and Embolo could cause us pain going forward, but Switzerland may switch their attacking focus to the right side given how weak we have been down that side.

It also means we only need one left winger/wing back which addresses the shortcomings of our squad. We go 3 at the back when in possession, with an option of one or two holding midfielders sitting back. Out of possession we go 5 at the back with 2 holding midfielders. It works against teams who play through the middle or with width. For us it works because we have players who are capable of attacking through the middle, we’re not reliant on crosses in the box. Three at the back worked for us in previous tournaments, so nothing new. I think Southgate is making this change more out of necessity than being bold. No Guehi, a half crocked Shaw and Trippier, with no left sided attacker who will keep an opposition defender and a midfielder occupied in the way Saka does on the right…it’s the only way. He clearly doesn’t trust Gomez or Gordon enough on the left. Crazy that Southgate left Grealish and Rashford at home if he is not prepared to start Gordon. Foden clearly does not belong on the left wing. Anyway, onwards and upwards. Switzerland are decent, but England for the win. If we show up and attack, we blow Switzerland away. If we play with the handbrake on…it will be squeaky bum time again. Being in Switzerland makes this one extra spicy for me…I’ll be watching the game at a friend’s house where they will all be supporting Switzerland which should make it interesting 😁

You underestimate Switzerland at your peril, but I would expect England to win this one, just like England should’ve against Iceland 8 years ago. The second goal the Swiss scored against Italy was comical, after they gave the ball away just after kick off. England have been playing poor up to Bellingham’s equaliser. So even though England have been not at their best, the win they can build on. Anyway game on.

Now if we include the players rumoured to be starting, you'll be playing a RW at LWB who isn't one (yes he played their for my club team for a small amount of games but that was out of consequence and he isn't suited to that role - I watch him week in and week out and he is no wing back) and the player rumored to start at LCB is someone who usually plays RCB of a 2 for Aston Villa under several different managers or RB under Emery this season at times which could potentially upset the balance.

Phew, that was close! Three at the back definitely feels more cohesive. Southgate really needs to be bolder, braver and faster with his changes though. Switzerland figured us out in the second half and Southgate didn’t respond with any change in tactics or personnel until we went behind. I feel for Switzerland as there was nothing between us in the 120mins, but hey bring on the semis 😊

I only saw the first half, extra time and the penalties due to my daughter performing in a theatre show. I was cautiously optimistic watching that first half as we appeared to create chances even if they weren’t taken. It felt better than the previous four games. I can’t comment on the second half and haven’t even seen the goals but extra time seemed to drift back to more of the same but that penalty shootout was magic!
Bring on the semi-final! Sometimes teams need to be lucky more than they need to be good and we’ve certainly had the rub of the green over the past few days. Maybe, just maybe, this time, it really is coming home!

A second European Championships Final in two tournaments! And what a way to win the semi final with a goal in the last minute as well. The performance was still not top class but was definitely better and while the head says Spain the heart says it’s coming home!
Come on England!!!!

A highly dubious penalty but we'll take it, we've been on the receiving end of enough bad decisions over the years. I thought we were definitely the better team on the night and whilst Spain will be slight favourites I get the feeling that just maybe our name is on the trophy.

It was never a penalty - but when luck is on your side then you take it. I agree that we were probably the better side and we’ve definitely grown into the tournament. It won’t be easy on Sunday but I agree; maybe our name is on that trophy this year
