The 220 use to be operated by single decks on a Sunday during the 90's.

I remember when the 221 was SD on Sundays! They used the 84A (184) buses! I can picture the vehicle type, but not sure of the name! 217 & 231 were both SD at one point, can't imagine how they'd manage with SD now, I think the 217/231 need frequency increase or another route along the A10! Erm the 144 had one of the first low floor SD, but capacity was an issue! Shocker! There was also a DAF on there a few months later! 149 had a SD with a flipdot blind! 232 has had DD but not these days. 230 had SD too The 101 was another route that had low-floor single deckers on there, but like the 144 it had trouble with capacity. They lasted a surprisingly long time on the 101 though, whereas the 144 got converted back to deckers more quickly. Routes 120, 186 and 222 also had low floor single deckers.

The 7 was RML during Mon-Sat whilst the DW class Handybus did Sundays. When the DML's came along, the evening & Sunday service was converted to DML'S whilst the daytime remained RML's. www.showbus.com/gallery/lt/goldarrow2.htmGreat! I would imagne the 38 having single door mini darts in service.

When First group operated the 61 I remember seeing a marshal bodied dart on it, also the i think the 269 had single deckers on it in the late 90s.

The 269 also has seen a few sightings of the 227's former excellent SPD's as well as the 208.

The SPDs stopped being excellent when they ended up on the 208, the route's overcrowded enough with deckers!

I remember when Limebourne went bust (before rescue) and the 156, which was then a single deck route anyway, had some private coaches on it with A4 paper as blinds on the windscreen.

god i remember the cramped single deckers on the 151 and 127. I cant honestly imagine the 151 with SDs now. i have used the route a few times from Wallington to Sutton at different times of the day and every time an SD would have really struggled and i have seen then many times running down Rose Hill with both decks full again at different times of day. Its hard to imagine Sunday services using SDs when in some cases recently the sunday service has been unoficially DD in the cases of the 81 and 289 plus A often put DDs on the 80 and 164 no doubt due to lower freqs.

Do operators get fined now or money deducted if they operate a single decker on a double deck route ?? and i also remember ETB using single decker buses on some of there double deck routes even an ELS on route 1 which i thought was a bit cheeky as they were suppose to lead by example as it were .

As bigbaddom stated, the 230 did have single deckers prior to conversion in 2004. Although some of these were used on the 69 as a result of many Tridents being loaned to Bow for the 8 due to the collapse of Transbus meaning delivery was slightly delayed.
Another route that had single deckers was the 257 under First operation. Though this only lasted 10 months and by 2001 it was already converted back to double deck. As a result TNL's that were bought for the 123 were diverted to the 257

Interestingly, I've used the 151 a few times at various times of day in the opposite direction and it was carrying me and about 3 other passengers.

From what i can make out is that, if it happens occasionally or for a genuine reason TfL dont mind (i maybe wrong, someone correct me if i am) however if it happens regularlly like what happened with the 160 and 492 then they do mind.
