A pity the MD class Metropolitan were not preserve in a red livery, which could've been used on the 36, for which I remember traveling on back in 1979.

Can't wait to ride on a MD again. MDs were part of my childhood, especially when they'd moved to suburban work on the 99, 180, 272 and similar. They had a lot of character, and like you, I'm very much looking forward to riding on the finished MD60. Would be wonderful for it to be allowed out to recreate some of its old routes, like the 36 group and some former PD routes

Incidentally what gearbox do they have?

I was also very lucky to be able to "drive" one a short distance at a terminal stop. I was only a teenager at the time. I think someone is trying to preserve a T&W example but I've no idea how well they're doing.

Not sure of details but an engineer we had at Waterloo who had worked on them at NX (and he'd done some years) said they were a Scania devised CVT transmission that meant they could go as fast backwards as they could forwards. He knew as he'd done it! Moz
