I looked at the passenger stats to see if ridership fell when the frequency was reduced. It didn't. It kept going up. Admittedly when the service was increased back in 2000 there was quite a big increase but it hasn't been lost. Obviously the overall numbers can't tell you precisely what happened to journeys at different times of day but the 464 has continued to do well (albeit the ridership is low compared to many other services).

Route B14 from every 30 minutes to every 20 minutes peak hours and shopping hours. Late evenings from every 60 minutes to every 30 minutes. To provide an improved bus link between Bexleyheath and Orpington.
Route B11 from every 15 minutes to every 10 minutes peak hours and Monday to Saturday day times and from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes Monday to Saturday evenings and Sundays. (In readiness for Crossrail at Abbey Wood).

Your busyish on the Orpington to St Pauls Cray if your infront of the R11, if not you will have about 5 people on. Apart from school times between Sidcup and Albany Park your barely be in double figures. Then Albany Park to Bexleyheath is the quietest part with an average of about 5 on again. At 10pm on a Friday night ive done a whole trip from Bexleyheath to Orpington and had no one at all.......

Indeed, if R1 was extended to cover the hospital, and maybe R11 slightly bolstered, I think you could bin the Orpington part of the B14 without too much heartache. The 51 could do with a push to every 7-8 minutes in M-F peaks, 89 up to 15 minutes eves/Sundays. I think there's some justification for a M-F peak increase on the 99 too.

Thanks Jay38a, thats really interesting, The few times I have been on the B14 to Orpington it had been very busy. So I presumed that was always the case. Twobellstogo if the Orpington changes go ahead then the R11 would be increased to every 12 minutes. I agree with the frequency increase for the 51.

I've always been a bit bemused as to why a town centre to town centre route in SE London should be as devoid as passengers as the B14 is (in relative terms). The B14's patronage has been increasing in recent years but it is still low. I guess people just prefer to drive given that bit of outer London is pretty prosperous and the B14 is a bit "round the houses" in places. I wonder if a nice Citaro operated 351 route from Princess Royal Hospital to Bexleyheath via 358 to Orpington, 51 to Sidcup, 229 to Penhill Rd then B14 into Bexleyheath would do better given the hospital link and more direct route. Say every 20 mins peaks and daytimes. (the locals can correct me if my suggested approach into Bexleyheath isn't the fastest option).

It's as good a way into Bexleyheath as any, snoggle. The problem with the B14 for through passengers is it takes an awful long time to get from end to end, which is why I always prefer 229/269, then 51 to get to Orpington. If both buses left at the same time, invariably the two bus journey is quicker unless the 51 is suffering and I have a long wait. The B14 is really only attractive to get to and from the Albany Park area. Otherwise, bus users will invariably go for other routes.

In stark contrast, my B14 end to end ride was quite busy practically along most of the route - however, I can see why it is quiet at times given it's quite an indirect routing and takes a good while to reach Bexleyheath from Orpington

I would certainly like improvements on frequency of the 47 on weekdays and weekends. It's shocking to be frankly honest how an important central london route has quite poor frequencies, it maybe roughly a 10mins wait according to timetable but drivers spend so much time at TL garage, gaps are often 13-15mins and this seems like a norm. Such route can do with a PVR increase especially the roadworks and diversions along the route
Finally 208 can go from a frequency increase from 12mins to 8mins in my opinion 358 can also see better frequency from 12-15mins i believe to 10mins
