Was reading my emails this afternoon and an email popped up stating it is soon to become mandatory for Cyclists to have road insurance and license plates.

I am hoping not because other while it will embarrassing as this only country to have it in the world where no other country is doing that.
I do understand that good work but it cost lots of money and how do you focus the kids to have number plates on the bike?

I disagree with this idea because it is silly! This is just pushing people away from cycling especially when some people do it to commute to work or for leisure which saves money. It will force more people into cars and public transport. Insurance is way too costly whilst having a number plate looks silly and is too much of a faff. Hope this doesn't actually take place...

I feel this is good myself. Makes cyclists more traceable and accountable.

While there are some interesting comments but sorry to say but I blame the ones who spoil it for everyone else not following the Highway Code. I see cyclists do all the time not following the Highway Code then have the audacity to have a go at other road users things such as, running red lights, not stopping at crossings and cutting up traffic...

Unfortunately there is a strong cycling lobby in the UK that does not believe highway laws apply to them. Currently it is virtually impossible to race a cyclist breaking the law. It is a case of you abused the system, so now you need to comply. I fully support this proposal ... and enjoy seeing Will Norman all upset! May the latter long continue.

Personally I agree with this idea. Cyclists should have license plates and insurance to help identify them in case of accident, help locate bikes if stolen and to help enforce the idea that they are not above the road usage laws. If cyclists want to ride in the road, which is their absolute right to do, they should be held to the same standard as motorists. There are always stories bounding around from time to time of cyclists causing accidents with pedestrians or cars but just cycling away.

Like driverless tube trains, this isn't going to happen. Too costly to implement and does nothing to address the real problem, which is the harm caused to cyclists and pedestrians by motorised vehicles. This is just Grant Shapps playing to the gallery again.

Most times the cyclist is at fault.

This is just Grant Shapps playing to the gallery again. Also the government have higher priorities to deal with so this isn't a significant issue, nor breaking news. What's more likely to be on their mind is solving the cost of living crisis and this will not help. It just serves as a distraction to the government over more important issues we face in our country

Fully supportive of this and should be implemented asap. The amount of time I see cyclists breaking rules is just ridiculous
I have 2 friends now with broken legs as a cyclist banged into them and ran off. The other day I had a cyclist nearly run into me in front of Greenwich ikea (a bus had stopped for me and this guy overtook the bus!!)
Frankly I have had enough of cyclists seeing themselves above the law. With the quantum of money thrown at empty cycle lanes there needs to be some measure of sensibility and sensitivity shown by these
Let’s not get lost into “most cyclists are good, only a small fraction of cyclists are bad” debate. Most humans are good, only a small fraction is bad, doesn’t mean we won’t have laws, no?
Down with the Lycra brigade!!!!
