Would it not be possible to just divert the 210 via Fonthill Road, in order to avoid the low bridge at Finsbury Park Station? Using Lennox Road towards Stamford Hill, and Tollington Park towards Archway (also looping around Coleridge Road). I often wondered why nothing is sent via Fonthill Rd, the only real restriction is the trees. HGV's are always going this way to avoid the low bridge on Stroud Green Rd.

There’s probably too much going on to lower the road under the bridge, but if it can be done it would be beneficial to the public purse in the long run. I was under the impression that the tube tunnels are too close to the road surface to allow the road to be lowered. I am sure this was said some years ago when it was mentioned to lower the road under the bridge that the Victoria & Piccadilly line tunnels were too close to the road.

Do we actually know that it won't be a new route? Yes, we know it won't be a new route. "Khan... scored a big early hit by announcing TfL will be extending the 210 bus route to provide a direct, single-decker link between Stamford and Golders Green, home areas to London’s largest Orthodox Jewish communities, answering a long-standing request."
It'll be an extension of the 210.
I wonder if complaints have remained over the years about DDs on the 210 and this is an opportunity to appease them them. Like when the 21/263/271 changes came about.

Whilst I don't see this as anything other than a political gimmick if it were to happen the 210 could be rerouted via Holloway to avoid the low bridge with the 143 possibly extended to Finsbury Park via Hornsey Rise? If they do a 310, hopefully it is not a case of mirror the 210 and then also could utilise roads like Upper Tollington Park Rd and Endymion Rd like the W5 does in part.

That’s pretty much what I proposed, mirror the 210 between Golders Green & Archway and then run via Holloway, Nags Head to Finsbury Park, Tollington Park, Harringay & St Anne’s Road

The 210 long ago had its new contract announced with new electric double deckers so with there are two conflicting pieces of fact, it’s best wait to see exactly what happens

The extension of the 210 isn't off-the cuff, it's an established proposal.
'To loud cheers from the packed audience, the current mayor said:”I’m pleased to announce tonight that if I’m re-elected TFL will extend the 210 bus route, a single decker, from Finsbury Park, to Stamford Hill, to Golders Green.”
Jewish News understands the commissioner of TFL is planning to visit Stamford Hill next month, with a new senior management team also involved.'

Not sure if it was a live proposal for just a suggestion that would be useful. I had seen an article months ago where a request was made to extend it to link the 2 places. If it had been an advanced proposal then the contract would likely to have been either a TBC vehicle award or more likely received a 1 year contract extension in order for a review to happen.

Established proposal that was on the back burner never to see the light of day until someone suggested to the Mayor it would be a good vote bribe?

Established proposal that was on the back burner never to see the light of day until someone suggested to the Mayor it would be a good vote bribe? Exactly. Yes the bridge issue would have no doubt held it back but also the cost/ benefit ratio and the fact that there aren't really any capacity issues between FP and S Hill hence the 253/254 having several freq reductions. There's no shortage of suggestions/proposals that don't ahead due to similar reasons.

Tell me you don't understand democracy without telling me you don't understand democracy. It's not a bribe. It's policies. People vote for policies. You don't get them without voting for said politician. To suggest it is, is absurd. "They" should be looking to introduce these services? TfL is an organisation with democratic oversight by an elected Mayor. Elected politicians are going to decide the strategy through the Mayor's Transport Strategy. Sadiq has done announcements recently on violence against women, police, council housing, jobs and much more. Keep up dear! I personally think it's great buses are getting some attention Do you have to be so patronising ? Frankly you are just rude and never seem to learn. I hope you are not so rude to people in the real world and when at work. I make no secret of not be that interesting in politics but it doesn’t take a genius to see through these recent promises of bus routes based on wining elections! As far as I recall this is the first time this tactic is being used. I wouldn’t mind if he was offering money to expand the network in general rather than trying to win votes on certain new routes. The mayor is frankly desperate and putting far too much focus on buses as it’s easy PR for him. That’s all I am saying on this as frankly I can’t be bothered replying to you as you just lay in waiting to have a dig at me. This tactic has been used before with the 384 withdrawal/extension in the run-up to the 2020 general election and the 2021 local election, but it wasn't quite as blatant. London Travelwatch has also become a single-issue campaign organisation for the newly-announced extension, to the neglect of many other important threatened or withdrawn routes that are supposed to be in its remit.
